Inflammation and how it can destroy our health

Inflammation refers to the body's defense system of fighting off things that can harm us. we hear a lot about many diseases that can threaten our health and its called inflammation. It can lead to serious illnesses such as arthritis, heart disease, diabetes and dementia which is on the rise. 

When something harms the body, it sends off a chemical response from the immune system where it releases antibodies, proteins and increased blood flow to the damaged areas.

However, when the bodies inflammation response is triggered and wont turn off, it leads to chronic inflammation as this causes damage deep within the cells. Eating unhealthy foods, consuming alcohol or soft drinks and little to no exercise are all associated with increased inflammation.

The goods news is that making small changes to your diet and lifestyle can decrease overall inflammation in your body.

Ways to reduce inflammation: 

  • Fruits - Blueberries, grapes, cherries and other deep coloured fruits
  • Spices - Turmeric, cinnamon, fenugreek 
  • Drinks - Green tea, cinnamon tea, turmeric milk, turmeric latte
  • Nuts - Almonds, Cashews, Walnuts
  • Chocolate - Dark chocolate
  • High Fats - Olive oil and avocado oil
